The challenge
In a digital era where misinformation spreads faster than ever, the challenge was to develop a news app that could guarantee authenticity without compromising on speed or user privacy. We aimed to design a minimalist, efficient app that would filter out fake news and create an experience that is both trustworthy and engaging for users.
Objective
The primary objective was to build a news platform where users could receive accurate and relevant news updates tailored to their interests. This meant utilizing AI to sift through countless sources, identifying only credible ones, and building a platform that required no personal information, respecting user privacy from the first download.
The strategy
Our strategy was to focus on three key areas: content credibility, user privacy, and app performance. We implemented features and functionalities that prioritize data integrity and a smooth user experience.
Our work included:
- AI Integration for Source Verification: Using AI algorithms similar to those in search engines, we designed a system that could rank news sources by credibility, ensuring that only legitimate, well-reputed sources make it to users’ feeds.
- Privacy-first Approach: We developed QuickNews to be fully operational without requiring personal data from users. The feed is curated solely by user-selected categories, making it highly customizable while keeping privacy intact.
- Lightweight & Efficient Design: The app is optimized to be lightweight and minimalist, ensuring it doesn’t take up much phone space or memory. This focus on simplicity allows users to receive the news they need without unnecessary distractions or clutter.
